Stranded Deep is an adventure game that was developed by Beam Team Games and published by Beam Team Pty Ltd. Stranded Deep was released for Microsoft Windows at the start of 2015. It involves exploration of the open seas.
When the player begins there first game, or a new game later on, in Stranded Deep the game will be given a unique seed. The seed is a spontaneous series of numbers that make up the world of that game. The point of the seeds is to create never before seen worlds for each game. No two worlds will be exactly alike, not even two biomes will be exactly alike.
Not only is the start of the world spontaneously generated when a player begins a new game in Stranded Deep, but anywhere traveled to later on is also generated on the spot. This means the player could head in a single direction for as long as they wanted to and they would be continuously generating new lands and biomes. Islands are included in the spontaneous generations of world.
The ocean in Stranded Deep is specifically the Pacific Ocean. The graphics and parts of the ocean in Stranded Deep are taken straight from the real Pacific Ocean. It will include the many species of animals and plant life found in the area of the Pacific Ocean.
As the player travels about the world in Stranded Deep they will encounter various biomes, which are regions of land possessing specific characteristics. Each biome takes up an area of the games grid totaling up to .16 sq. miles. Even though biomes are restricted to this amount of space it’s possible for them to extend beyond their borders into another biome to create the appearance of them running right into each other. The continuous generation of new biomes also makes the sea look like it’s never ending.
A majority of the gameplay in Stranded Deep will be at sea because it does take place in the Pacific Ocean, but islands are found floating in the waters. Players are able to and should explore these islands because that’s where they’ll gather all of the scarce resources they need to be successful and survive.
Stranded Deep islands are also good for looking out into the expansive seas. It can be overwhelming while floating around in the water but if the player can get up high enough they’ll see out far enough to get an idea of where they’re going. Another feature of these islands are the crabs. Crabs make their nests on the islands and players can see them if they get close enough.
Exploration of the sea is made more accurate in Stranded Deep with the changing weather and such. It’s common for storms to brew in actual oceans so Stranded Deep features a system that does exactly that. Player need to keep an eye out for changing weather because storms can be deadly. A majority of the days spent out on the ocean will be bright and sunny but even when it’s only ranging the player will find it difficult to sea and navigate their exploration.
This game is very much like Cast-away – survive on your resources which you can scavenge! Other games like this, with the same theme include Minecraft, Dead Island 2, Savage Lands, Far Cry 4, Rust and finally Escape Dead Island. Many of these games are survival games (against zombies etc.) which has become a really common theme in games. You can find plenty of others with the same survival gameplay aspects.
