Mass Effect 2 is an action role-playing third person shooter video game that was developed by BioWare and published in 2010 by Electronic Arts for the platforms of Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.  Mass Effect 2 is the direct sequel to the original game in the series, Mass Effect. The final game in this series is Mass Effect 3 and it follows Mass Effect 2. You can also download the 1st game of the series, Mass Effect, here.

The setting of Mass Effect 2 takes place in the Milky Way galaxy in the time period of the 2100s. Mass Effect 2 gameplay is based on the end of humanity because of the threat from an alien species called the Collectors. These creatures are based on insectoids.

Just like in Mass Effect, the player character in Mass Effect 2 is the elite army commander Shepard. His goal is to build up a team of loyal members who will assist him in the suicide mission that takes out the Collectors. A cool feature of Mass Effect 2 allows the player to use the saved gameplay from the original Mass Effect to change up the gameplay of Mass Effect 2.

There are some overall changes to the gameplay of Mass Effect 2 from the first Mass Effect. The developers have included more third person shooter based aspects such as a limit on the given ammunition and health that will regenerate.

Another difference in the sequel is that there is a greater focus on the side missions. Mass Effect had more emphasis on the main missions but now the optional missions will be played out in the same way.

The customization of the character returns with Mass Effect 2. Before the player starts on their journey through the gameplay they will decide on the gender, overall appearance, and past experience. It’s possible for players to bring in their previous character that they customized in the first Mass Effect if they don’t want to create an all new one.

If a player loads their past character to the Mass Effect 2 there’s a chance of them receiving special bonus rewards. The game grants bonuses to the player based on certain decisions they made in the first game. Once again there are six player classes that each feature their own skills, weapons, and tools.

The gameplay in Mass Effect 2 is set up on a map of the Galaxy. Players journey out into the Galaxy and search for the different quests to complete. A majority of the missions are based on combat. As the player progresses farther through the quests the player will gain access to new locations and characters that will accompany them. They will also earn more experience points after each quest is finished.

The more experience players earn in Mass Effect 2 the higher they level up. Each new level brings the player more squad points which can be used to buy special skills for Shepard and other characters on his team.

You can play other games like Mass Effect such as Bioshock 2. You can also download Fallout 3 here. Players and fans of Mass Effect, and are probably sad that such a great story-line and series has ended, would probably also enjoy playing Max Payne 3 and Far Cry 3. Live on in the gaming world!
