Life is Strange is a graphic adventure episode based video game that was developed by Dontnod Studios and published by Square Enix. The first episode to Life is Strange was released in January of 2015. The story is divided into five separate episodes and a new one is released to the players after seven weeks.

The player character in Life is Strange is named Maxine Caulfield. She’s studying photography but she has a unique gift. She realizes that she’s capable of going back in time whenever she pleases. By traveling through time and making minor changes Maxine is dramatically affecting other events, this is known as the butterfly effect.

Most graphic adventure games focuses on the puzzles but Life is Strange is more about the storyline and development of the character throughout the game. The story itself is flexible as it changes so often due to the characters actions. Anything she does will have an effect on the past and the future because of the time travel.

Players control Maxine Caulfield from a third person perspective in Life is Strange. The player makes all of her decisions for her and ultimately guide the direction of the episodes based on the actions of Maxine.

If the player realizes a certain action led to unwanted outcomes then they can go back in time and make a different choice. The only time Life is Strange doesn’t let the player revisit the past is when it’s past the time of the previous check point.

Life is Strange features consequences for various actions made by Maxine. Some will be quick and be over with soon but some consequences could affect the player through the rest of the episodes. The developers also stated that the outcomes of different actions are not always what they may seem to be. It could be good in the present but the player may find that it turns out to be worse later on.

When the player rewinds time in Life is Strange there are a few things they can do. Any conversation can be altered in Life is Strange by going back and choosing different options since the system of dialogue involves different responses.

If the player changes something that happened in the past it’s possible that something they had planned from before will be erased and never happen in the future. Life is Strange lets the players keep all of the objects they’ve gathered in their inventory even while traveling back and forth through time.

Life is Strange also attempted to incorporate some exploration into the game. There are hidden Easter eggs placed all around the maps of every episode. The player will have to be hunting for them to find them.

Players can also interact with the environment and objects around them in Life is Strange. By picking up and observing the various objects around them the player may be able to use them as clues to solving the puzzles included in the Life is Strange gameplay.

We’d also recommend you play The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which has a similar gameplay style. If you enjoyed the comedic aspects to LiS, then maybe try South Park: The Stick of Truth (its great laughs!). Another episodic game includes Tales from the Borderlands or even Saints Row: Gat out of Hell.
