Company of Heroes 2 is a real time strategy video game that was developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega. Company of Heroes 2 was released in 2013 for Microsoft Windows and Linux. This is the second installment in the Company of Heroes series.
The gameplay in Company of Heroes 2 is based on the events of World War II. The original Company that of Heroes was also based on World War II except Company of Heroes 2 is centered on the eastern front and Soviet Red Army.
The system of gathering resources in Company of Heroes 2 is similar to the first Company of Heroes. It involves capturing flags placed around the map so the player can get ammunition and credits for fuel. The ammunition and fuel gained from the flags goes into building up the players units for battles. There’s also a way to increase the value of the points so that they offer more resources.
It’s become easier for players to actually capture flags in Company of Heroes 2. The whole unit doesn’t need to surround the flag to capture it. The soldiers unit just has to be in a specified zone without any enemies nearby and the flag is ready to be captured. The player will find that their unit grows stronger and gains more resources quicker if the unit is capturing several flag points from all around the map.
The maps in Company of Heroes 2 feature buildings that the player and their army are able to hold out in until they’re ready to go into battle. They must keep in mind that the opponent can attack with flame throwers and explosives even though they’re inside of a civilian building. The vulnerability of the buildings remains as it was in Company of Heroes. For example, structures made out of wood will remain on fire until they are reduced down to nothing but the cinders.
Combat in Company of Heroes 2 uses units that are controlled by the player. They also have control over the units that come in and help out the main units. There are several types of units, but they all have a set cost for construction and time that it takes to recruit the soldiers for the unit.
One of the main aspects of the game that affects how the gameplay goes in Company of Heroes 2 is the weather. It features an all new ColdTech system for simulating weather in the game. This system makes the battles more accurate because a majority of the eastern front battles were fought in the freezing cold. It’s possible for one of the player’s soldiers to die from frost bite if they are trapped outside in the cold and can’t escape the fire of enemy’s. It’s a good idea to build up fires nearby the battlegrounds so the player’s soldiers can easily get warmed up and not freeze to death.
Fans of Company of Heroes should definitely take a look at download the game’s expansions. The Western Front Armies expansion pack, as well as Ardennes Assault are both downloadable expansions to CoH 2 which focus more on the Western Front during the great World War 2.
